Tony Beatton from QUT's School of Economics & Finance has passed confirmation as a PHD Candidate. Tony continues his studies into the economics of happiness.
The objective of Tony's 'PhD by publication' is to produce three journal articles and a book chapter in the discipline of Economics. Each academic paper progressively builds upon the previous to culminate in a book chapter that should present a parsimonious view of the Economics of Happiness. The study seeks to empirically-unveil the limits to how much we can learn by examining current econometric models of happiness. The examination will be conducted in the light of the economic and psychological literatures. It seeks to respecify and augment our current models of happiness with the new knowledge that should emerge from this research. Recent advances in the content of economic data sets have created research opportunities to consider happiness from a multidisciplinary perspective. For example, panel data from the Australian and German socioeconomic surveys now include psychology-derived scales that allow us to econometrically consider and test how behavioural factors contribute to happiness.
