Economics Reading Group
- 6
-
Audience: The reading group is open to all interested staff, post-graduate students and high-performing undergraduate students (GPA > 5.5) from QUT and its School of Economics and Finance.
Format for the sessions: At each meeting, we review and discuss a recent article from the economics literature(s). The goal of each session is to develop student skills by helping them to become familiar with, understand and analyse the complexities of the different economic concepts & methods in the economics literature(s). In the context of economic policy, we discuss and relate the issues, ideas and arguments raised in the literature piece under review.
Why come along? The review process helps to keep us informed of current economic research directions and thinking. This inevitably leads to fruitful debate and a discussion that identifies ideas and opportunities for future research.

Brown-Bag Sessions
- 4
This section provides a précis of the Brown-Bag Sessions that provide a convenient forum for us to dynamically keep up to date on the current state of the economics-related research efforts in QUT's School of Economics and Finance. As the name implies, we bring our lunch to room Z808 at noon until 1 pm (AEST). (The sessions are held on the alternate Mondays to the Economics Reading Group sessions). See the Calendar for details of the next Brown-Bag Session .
Audience: The Brown-Bag Sessions are open to all interested staff and post-graduate students from QUT and its School of Economics and Finance.
Format for the sessions: A researcher in the School of Economics and Finance gives an informal chalk & talk session about where they are with their current research project (up to 40 minutes).
The final twenty minutes is available for questions, discussion and anything else that takes your fancy.
Why come along? These informative sessions help us understand what others are doing, but, more importantly, we may pick up ideas that we could incorporate into our own research.
